March 2013 Update

March 12th, 2013

Phew! It’s been too long since I updated. I moved at the end of January, which occupied a lot of my time for a while, but now I’m happily working on lots of shows again.

Last week, I was lucky enough to play Miss Brittany and Tierra Rose in a wildly successful staged reading of Pageant Princess, the Musical. It’s an amazing new show by Lorelei Mackenzie, Kristen Penner and Joni Ernst that is destined for great things!

Next up, I’m singing in a brand new song cycle by Seth Bisen-Hersh: If Adele Can Do It, So Can I: an evening of mostly sorrow. Details below:

$10 Cover/ 2 Drink Minimum (cash only)
Don’t Tell Mama, 343 W. 46th St.
Call for reservations after 4pm: 212-757-0788 or online at donttellmamanyc.com

I’m also gearing up for the next event from Cupcake Lady Productions (www.cupcakeladyproductions.com) and directing my first full-length play, The Importance of Being Earnest. Stay tuned for more on those, coming in April! Hope to see you at the cabaret.

Melissa and Devra at the Duplex

December 3rd, 2012

Every once in a while, you meet someone who makes a huge impact on your life. Sometimes they’ll be around for only a few months; other times, they stick around for a lifetime. But once you know them, you’re changed. And so it was when Melissa met Devra Seidel. Their instant, profound friendship (and really natural blending of singing voices) has inspired this evening of songs about life-altering people and those imprints they leave.

A Taste of Rotten Theatre

September 20th, 2012

My brand new company, Cupcake Lady Productions, is having its first spectacular event next week! “A Taste of Rotten Theatre” will present a handful of short scenes that are horribly written, remarkably over-acted and enormously offensive. Comedian Harry Terjanian will host, and the scenes will feature actors Michael Rehse, Julie Robles and the Cupcake Ladies: Laura Mae Baker, Rich Wisneski, Stephanie Sottile and myself. There’s also a Horrible Play Contest, prizes, drink specials (with cake vodka, naturally) and – of course – custom-made cupcakes (just $1 apiece)! The details:

Cupcake Lady Productions presents:

Admission: $7 (cash only!) OR a pop-up toaster (seriously)

I’m closing out the summer with Hudson Shakespeare as Dorotea in the lesser-known Cardenio. It’s been an exciting adventure to explore such an obscure piece and create a dynamic, wacky and touching show.

Our last two performances are this weekend in Manhattan at the Producer’s Club. To see more about the run of Cardenio, please visit the show page.

The Comedy of Errors

July 13th, 2012

Tonight I open as Dromio of Syracuse in Hudson Shakespeare’s production of The Comedy of Errors. It’s a wonderful break to be doing such a goofy, farcical show after closing a tragedy.

The production is touring to parks in New Jersey and Connecticut Friday, July 13 through Saturday, July 28. For performance details, locations and information about the company, please visit the show page.

Desdemona in Othello

June 11th, 2012

I’m returning to Hudson Shakespeare Company this summer! First, I will be playing Desdemona in Othello, which has been something of a dream of mine since a castmate in another show predicted I would someday play the role. It’s also my first tragic Shakespearean heroine, so I’m truly thrilled and humbled.

The production is touring to parks in New Jersey and Connecticut Friday, June 15 through Saturday, June 30. For performance details, locations and information about the company, please visit the show page.
